Bust a Move Initiative

Moving homes. Rebuilding lives. Keeping families in Altadena.

When the Eaton Fire tore through Altadena, it didn't just take houses — it threatened something deeper. The generational roots. The neighbors who've known each other for decades. The families who built this community from the ground up and have called it home for generations.

Rebuilding from scratch is expensive. For many of our families, the math simply doesn't work. New construction costs can run well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars — before you've even broken ground. That's where the Bust a Move Initiative comes in.

What We're Doing

Bust a Move is a collaboration between Altadena Brick by Brick, Teresa Fuller of Compass Real Estate, and Eletrice Harris of SoCal NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects). Together, we're doing something creative, practical, and powerful: sourcing donated homes and physically relocating them onto fire-cleared lots in Altadena — dramatically cutting the cost of getting a family back into their neighborhood.

Instead of building new, we're moving existing homes — onto the lots where burned homes once stood. With architectural oversight from SoCal NOMA and real estate expertise from Teresa Fuller of Compass, each relocated home is thoughtfully sited, professionally prepared, and built to code. The result is a safe, dignified home at a fraction of the price of new construction.

Why It Matters

Altadena's generational families are at risk of being priced out of their own neighborhood — not by choice, but by circumstance. We believe that recovery shouldn't mean displacement. Every family that wants to come home deserves a real path to get there.

The Bust a Move Initiative is that path.

How You Can Help

The Bust a Move Initiative runs on community support. Funds raised go directly toward relocation logistics, site preparation and the architectural and permitting work that makes each house a home again.
